Cinema Tuesdays-RocknRolla

So last month was RocknRolla at the Montalbán in Hollywood for Cinema Tuesdays.  The line was ridiculous.  People were waiting out on Hollywood and Vine.  A line so long that it curved into the parking lot of the adjacent building.

The first thing I thought was, “I am not waiting in this line” but then I saw a “friend” at the front of the line.  I scurried my friends and myself up to the front and asked if we could join and since he had been waiting forever before my friends and I he said sure.  He soon left after we joined the line, leaving us at the front of the line to get our tickets and a group of a mile long of angry people stared behind us.  It’s the closest thing I could get to VIP for this event.  So, after all the waiting, and then finding out that they wanted NO CELL PHONES, CAMERAS OR CAMERA PHONES in the building, we sent one of our friends who brought his car to go shove everything in the car so we could get in.  Finally it was time to go in and this time they had metal detectors and security on high alert.

After we got through the doors though, it was worth the wait.  Of course the regular free vodka was there, but people actually recognized us, which we found funny because half the pictures of us on the internet, we didn’t even know were there.  Free candy, popcorn, drinks, alcohol…what more could you ask for?  Four Windrunners (Belvedere Vodka and Juice) later, and the movie was about to start.  We hustled into the theater just to find it to be so packed that we all had to separate and sit at different parts.  After the opening credits though, nothing else mattered.  Rocknrolla was a damn amazing movie.

If you’re into English gangsters and Russian mobsters, then this movie, directed by Guy Ritchie himself, is for you.  It’s basically about a Russian mobster who orchestrates a crooked land deal, millions of dollars are up for grabs, and all of London’s criminal underworld wants in on the action. Guy Ritchie returns to his roots with , a crime comedy in the spirit of his early films LOCK, STOCK AND TWO SMOKING BARRELS and SNATCH. Cast includes Thandie Newton, Chris “Ludacris” Bridges, Jeremy Piven and Tom Wilkinson.  This movie is packed with action and even some really humorous parts are shoved in as well.

Now, usually what happens is you save your tickets from the entrance and then turn them in at the end for your gift bag.  Apparently there was no gift bag last night, but the free Belevedere and after party more than made up for that.  From 10pm-Midnight, everybody had all the liquor they could take and I even noticed people actually NOT TAKING the drinks that the waitresses were bringing around.  We were all pretty liqoured up.  It was a night to remember for sure and the place to be was there.  After-after parties floated around and talk of the festivites was heard all over Los Angeles.  Nobody could say they didn’t have a good time.
