Neckface “Devils Disciple” Show Opening at O.H.W.O.W Gallery on Halloween

I had been hearing about Neckfaces “Devils Disciple” show for weeks from everyone in Miami. Neckface made his presence known in Miami by putting together the gruesome scene of a dead body behind a glass display on a busy street which almost caused a lot of crashes. The local news picked up the story and it set Miami on fire. Anyone who was anyone was going to this show to see what all the ruckus was about.

I got there around 10 or so and ran into an insane crowd of people spilling into the street from the back area of the O.H.W.O.W gallery. Everyone was dressed up in a crazy ass costume. I personally don’t celebrate Halloween too heavy but I will watch other people act a fool on Halloween night.

I parked really far from the gallery space because the  street it self was filled with all kind of cars parked on each of its sides. I walked down to the gallery, past some dudes selling parking behind their house. The hustle never stops. They were having a party too and selling alcohol to kids passing by who obviously knew nothing about the hood just a couple feet down the street from O.H.W.O.W gallery, but wanted to seem “down” and so they pretty much hung around their crib, while the neckface show / party was where it really was at.

I walked into the gate past some kid who looked like he was security. He couldn’t have been older than 18. I asked him if he did security for the gallery regularly and he said,”Nah, my brother got called for the job and he just put me on when they told him he could bring someone else.” Im sure he made good money by just standing there. I doubted he’d really try to break up a scuffle if the chance arose though. I gave him a dap and walked into the chaos going on behind the gallery.

There was a bunch of hipster / punk rock kids everywhere talking, skating, snapping flicks, drinking the keg beer they were giving out for free and just overall going crazy. Most of the chicks looked pretty dope. Heads were rockin’ their costume to the full effect and acting like the characters they set out to portray. Dudes were using the anonymity of being behind a costume to cop a feel on chicks while acting like they were trying to scare them. Hilarious.

I wasn’t ready to walk into the gallery so I walked to the end of the gallery where I saw a bunch of kids drinking, and staring into a garage opening. Ibside of the opening kids were skating on a half pipe. It was a skate demo of a couple skate teams I forget the name of now, but were pretty ill on the boards. They took turns falling into the pipe and trying their best trick and a lot of ‘em were sticking their landings. I was pretty impressed with the fact their was a half pipe apart of the building which also held the gallery space. All the kids watching were into it, cheering the skaters on, while a lot looked one kick flip away from snapping their necks.

To get inside the actual gallery space where neckface’s paintings were on display you had to go through a haunted house. The line was huge and I thought I’d never get in, so I just skipped a bunch of heads. And I don’t feel bad about it. I figured if it was that serious to people, they’d call me on it, but of course they didn’t. I walked past the security guarding the doorway into the haunted house like a bulldog and walked into a warped atmosphere of deathly figures contorted in horror. chicks were screaming and so were some dudes. It was your basic haunted house with dark corridors and real people dressed up like goulish figures who jumped out at you or grab your arm while you passed by. Neckface’s signature style was all over it though.

I got into the gallery space which was holding a sea of people. I immediately started checking out Neckface’s work which was so fresh. The cigarette cartoons were so hilarious. Neckface’s style seems simple at first, but the added wit and comedy he adds into it pushes it into a lane all his own.

I walked around talking to people and ran into a bunch of dudes taking flicks and shooting video, and asked one what he was shooting for and he said it was for a movie him and Neckface were doing. So I was like,”Oh, is he here? and he was like “Yeah, he’s right there” and pointed him out. You’d never know it was him because he always keeps his face covered. He was wearing a mask when dude pointed him out to me, but since hes always incognito, when he took it off to talk no one even knew it was him. It was just another dude in costume. I walked up and asked if I could take a picture(Above) and do an interview in the future and he agreed. Dude was real cool and down to earth. He was just bugging out all over the place, taking flicks and greeting people who were congratulating him on the success of the show. I bought one of his books and he signed it. Fresh.

Travis Mccoy popped up and everyone started buzzing about dude. He reminded me of a friend from my home town named Ted. Coincidentally, he does art too. He greeted everyone and despite his humble demeanor while walking around the art space, he made energetic expressions while taking pictures with fans which was cool.

I also bumped into Andrew Reynolds. He seemed extra tired. I forgot what he was for halloween. A convict?

After checking out everything in the gallery, I walked out and saw a bunch of cops giving some of the gallery owners shit about the way people had their car parked. I watched to see if any nonsense was going to go down and realized one of the cops was really hot. She’s hands down the hottest cop in Dade county. I imaged she was tough as hell, because with that exterior, I’m sure a lot of people take her for granted. I started imagining she was like Jennifer lopez in “Enough” after she learned how to kicked ass. Turned me on.

I decided to roam around the party going on outside behind the gallery one more time and even more people were there now. I checked out a few more of the costumes and ran into this chick dressed like Kitana from Mortal Kombat. She was looking really good. I first took a random flick of the crowd, and upon review of the picture saw her very plump ass was in the corner of it and looked up to see her in 3-D and was presently surprised with her shape. I asked for a pic and she was more than happy to pose.

All in all, the whole the thing was a success and a lot of fun. Neckface and O.H.W.O.W put together a great event.

I even took some video. Check it out to get a great feel of what the party was like. Shout out to my homie Mandon for the video editing work.

More pics from the Neckface show after the jump.
