“Eternal Glory”- The Afflicted Yard

The Afflicted yard is the shit, plain and simple. It’s a site started by a fellow jamaican named Peter Dean Rickards to capture the grittiness of his homeland and some of the places he finds himself during his travels. Pictures of beautiful black women, violent shoot outs and slaughtered animals all adorn the Blogallery that is The Afflicted Yard.  

Rickards and his afflicted yard comrades state in their mission statement that their “Perspectives are at once expressed culturally (Jamaican/ North American)as well as individually. At the very base , we are only interested in a good laugh. We mess with everyone and everything. We were those kids who laughed when the space shuttle blew up. We were those guys who got thrown out of class for laughing at the class retard.”   I can identify with these dudes.

Rickards has been published in an array of magazines such as I-D, Lodown, Rolling Stone, Vanity Fair, Complex, Vibe, and NEON because of His very authentic portrayals of life’s polarity. The Celebration of life and The celebration of death. The drastic divide between the uber-rich and bottom of the barrel poor. And of course, beautiful people doing ugly things. Rickards captures it all.

Personally, what I love are the women he photographs.

Of course Im a dude with a dick who subcontracts out some of his thinking to his lower “Mem-brain” from time to time, but I swear he photographs the women of my dreams.

Theyr’e so Fresh…

…So Grimy…

…So Real…

…and at the same time seemingly untouchable. 

His pictures are so much like mirrors into our own lives, it makes you want to jump into them, and live in the moment. Not alot of photographers can do that. And Im sure he doesn’t get as much credit as some of the best, but he still does a great job of capturing the world in its pure essence. 

And Now for the feature presentation. Eternal Glory:
